Forsythe

We used to cycle past a lovely 1909 Edwardian brick house in West Harbour enroute to one of our favourite eateries. One day we noticed it was on the market and there happened to be an open house. Curiosity began to grow. The proximity of the property to downtown Oakville and the lake—plus the cottage-like charm of the side bump-out and front porch had so much curb appeal—we couldn’t resist. Our designer adrenaline kicked in for yet another gem project.

Before long we were pulling down walls, ripping up floors and making the most of another opportunity to reinvent a property. During the initial design phase, we identified four changes that needed to be prioritized: 1) digging out a proper nine foot basement, 2) adding more living space including a master bedroom, sunroom and garage/garden shed, 3) modernizing all electrical and plumbing, and 4) landscape design makeover.
